Adoption of health information technology is key to your organization's success and financial health over the next few years. It is also the key to lowering costs and improving quality throughout the health care system. Your healthcare organization's employees are the key to successful implementation.

The conversation has been started. Let's keep it going.

We have a lot of work to do. The government has put its money behind this effort, and while many people disagree on where health reform should be headed, almost everyone agrees we need to lower costs, improve quality and do more with our resources. Study after study shows that full implementation of electronic health records (EHR) accomplishes those goals.

Several recent studies show that only about 12% of healthcare organizations have adopted eprescribing, and an even smaller number have adopted electronic health records across their organizations.

While the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes incentive funds for IT infrastructure, those funds will begin to roll out then diminish from 2011 through 2015. After that, penalties will be assessed to those who are late to the game.

If you are one of the majority of physician's offices, labs, hospitals, nursing homes or home health agencies that need to meet these targets, Health System Ed can help.
